Dreamweavers

‘Utterly sublime’

Jazz Journal

Frozen Light

Cinematic, eclectic and mercurial guitar band. With broad soundscapes, a contemporary jazz sensibility, and rock, folk, blues, latin and eastern influence. The evolving collaboration between Chris Allard and Mike Trim has resulted in a wide-ranging album at once earthy, contemplative, considered, and yet also energetic, fiery and space-age.

Dreamweavers: Woven in Time features live and organic acoustic performance, multi-layered instrumentation and high-level improvising, with creatively and delicately built sonic design utilising contemporary cutting-edge production techniques; generating a distinctive and evocative sound-world.

Joining Allard and Trim are Jim Watson on piano and keyboards, Dudley Phillips on double and electric basses and Nick Smalley on drums and percussion. An exciting group of musicians at the very top of their game, the full band expertly balance complexity with a sense of melody, accessibility and groove.

Collaborative project Dreamweavers have developed a distinctive musical aesthetic, sound-world and shared creative vision; which has evolved over several years and hundreds of hours of recording and production of original creative projects.

The title Woven in Time is intended to signify this musical evolution; a reflection of Dreamweavers’ unfolding artistic process.

Citadel, our follow-up album, is nearly complete and planned for release late 2025. It has a more live in the studio feel, yet maintains the shared musical aesthetic, evocative sound-worlds, organic yet fiery improvisation and ensemble interaction.

Woven in Time is the first release of new collaborative project Dreamweavers.

‘…when the music is so well written, so layered with tonal colour and textures, words are not enough to express the sounds heard. Melodic Collective is well structured in terms of stylistic variations and this is helped by allowing different compositional voices to share their music. As is so often the case with very good music, this album deserves to be listened to – not just heard – multiple times to really appreciate the writing and performance. This is not because the music is inaccessible but because each listening will reveal more of this “exciting collective sound”.’

Rocking with bluesy angular lines…somewhere between Scofield and Carlton with a dash of fleet-footing Martino…he demonstrates gorgeous nylon-string polyphony…evocative acoustic work…demonstrates enough compositional and stylistic colour from his five-man band to suggest bebop is far from being Allard’s only brush
